My Dad passed away Thanksgiving morning at 85 and he was buried yesterday. When I was in the 5th grade we moved from the suburbs to the "country" in western Hanover County, Virginia. Soon after my dad decided we needed a tractor. He found one, a VAC sitting in a junk yard in Ladysmith. Don't know how long that tractor had been sitting, someone had a home made wood splitter built into it. Went up there with a battery, 5 gallons of gas, and starting fluid. Tractor fired right up and we drove it home. Later he found another VAC with an Eagle Hitch, putting the two together, and fabricating those parts that were missing. Did everything with that tractor, even pulled a PTO baler with it to pay part of my college tuition. That VAC my dad found in a junk yard is what started my love of Case tractors. The tractor is still running to this day.

" No Doubt, Dad is welcomed among his uncles to the Best Threshing Crew in the Heavens .. Maybe They were not PERFECT Men , But They were Good Men ,willing to work and earn their keep and to serve honorably".

I sense you haven't lost your Dad, he is still with you, every time the "VAC" starts he smiles, and is. If you do, I have that same feeling, as my Dad would say to me, slow down Dan, read the directions. Or, stop Dan, lets think about this. He is always with me with those difficult decision's.
I feel you loved and respected your Dad, and that is precious.
Thanks for sharing your words with us.

Thank you for all of the comments, especially those that pointed out my dad will live on when I use my old tractors, or work in my garden, or any of the numerous other things he taught me to do. I have no doubt you are absolutely right.
