Fix engine or find used.

I picked up a 1955 Case 400 diesel. I had asked before about heads cracking on these. Well the heads have big enough cracks they can be easily seen. Anyways, in its current state, 1 head is off, one is just sitting on the block, the hood is covering the motor but the cyls are rusty and it's stuck. I'm also missing the rocker arms and the pushrods plus all the hardwear. So am I better off finding a running used motor? Or rebuild what I have? If I could find a parts motor Id be able to rebuild it

Buying used will probably cheaper. you'd have a couple thousand in a overhaul. And that may not get it all. gobble

You could upgrade the horse power by bolting a 830 engine onto you 400. It would give you a little over 60hp.

(quoted from post at 21:46:11 11/28/17) Is that bolt in for the most part?

The block is the same as what's on the 400, only with a few upgrades to put out more horse power.
