Can a 451 block be bored out to take 504 sleeves and pistons?Any other differences in the engine that would have to be changed?
 
I did it with a 930 block, so I dont see
why not. But it would seem easier and
cheaper to just buy a 504. Why are you
thinking about doing that?
 
Needs overhauled.Rest of the tractor is in good shape.Could use a little more power.Havent checked into what it would cost to bore the block.
 
if you chose to bore out the 451 and put in the 504 sleeves you should really get the 504 heads to go with it. The 451 heads have smaller
valves and the engine won't be able to breath as well as it should.
 
Thanks for the info.Will probably just keep it a 451 unless the heads are bad which I dont expect.

I have thought about moving up one sleeve size when the counterbores or O-ring surfaces are bad. Never talked to the machine shop about it though. Probably pretty basic stuff compared to sleeving the O-ring surfaces.


504 parts are cheaper than 451 or 401 parts last I ordered. On a turbo engine in field application I doubt you would notice much difference with 451 heads on a 504.
 
If its in a 1070-1170-75 or 1270, yes you can especially if the counter bores are bad,the 1070 will need different rods as the wrist pins are smaller,the other 3 all will fit.You may not have the full power with the small heads but will work fine.You may need to go to the pencil injectors from a 504 as the spray angle may be different.We have done several over the years and they are still out working.If the block is bad where the o rings seal this will be as cheap a fix as having the block repaired.Forgot to say,if your motor is non turbo use 2090 parts,if turbo use 2290 parts.
