Tractor capability?

I have a 1961 Case W3 tractor (530) with model 42 loader and backhoe. With the counterweight of the backhoe I was able to unload and place these large rectangular bales with my loader. My loader bucket has hooks welded to top outer corners of bucket and I'd use a chain to hold bale to front of bucket. I figure the bales weighed 1000 lbs or more. The machine moved them well yet you could definitely feel the weight as you moved the bales from the trailer to hay barn. My specs for loader are 2500 lbs and the diesel 188 rated for 52 HP. This is a photo taken at where the bales are located at sellers residence. I am just curious about what precautions a person should take to avoid damaging their machine. I just moved them in 1st gear low range.

Do you have some protection to shield you if the bale falls toward the seat, with you in it? You will not get a second
chance...

Are you moving the bales one at a time, or three at a time like your picture suggest? Moving the bales one at a time will be safer, and faster. You can go a little faster with one bale on the loader than you could trying to move three.

I tilt bucket so bale is against ends of bucket. Then hook chain around from hooks welded to top corners of bucket. Chain is drooped 1/2 way down outside of bale. Then tilt bucket back a wee bit. Bale can only fall forward and down.

You should be safe if you have the bucket/bale low to the ground during transport, and only raising the bale when you are placing them on a stack, or on a trailer. Some extra weight on the back of the tractor will be a big help.
