Can someone tell me what type of oil goes I a 400 case rear end/ trans? They are together, correct? And maybe how many gallons? Thank you in advance. Carl.

85/140 is what you use,and 14 gallons is what is recommended .I also caution that when you drain the transmission that you remove the plug just rear of the front plug. Also ,and I beat this dog to death, but once you remove the plug, make sure that you have three 5 gallon pails ready to catch the product. Place a piece of plywood under the buckets, as it allows the buckets to slide easier as you slide the next bucket in place. You will never be able to re install the plug until it drains.just sayin. Been there ,done that.CM

A lot of clean concrete garage floors have nearly been ruined because of the plug getting away from the person doing the draining. Plugging the transmission breathers will slow the flow some. You might be able to switch buckets between the glurks and not spill as much oil.

The Manual says 90 gear oil, but 85W140 was not available at that time. However, 85W140 is a much better choice, it offers the "lubricity" of an 85 weight when cold, but the protection & lubricity of a 140 when warm.
