Hello My 1070's pto recently stated to not stop when I disengaged the lever, I set it by the book today and it still keeps running (pulling a new Idea corn picker) if I slam the lever back a few times it will stop, any idea's?? I did not set the stop screws for the travel of the lever?? it has worked fine all year , I bought this tractor with a cab fire and rebuilt it and have been useing it a little over a year with no problems until I started to pick corn , It run a 499 haybine this summer with no issues , I set the travel by the specks in my I@T manual. Thanks Bryan

Sounds like the outer core of the cable is loose at one end or other, or the core is going bad. have someone in the cab to move the lever and you watch how the pto spool moves. Does your tractor have the spring loaded T handle modification on the pto lever ???

hello thanks for the reply I had my better half in the cab today and she moved the lever it seamed to move from bottom out forward 3/4 in ,( I did not measure )bottomed out should be off ?? it dose have the spring on the lever. thanks Bryan

Next simple step would be to disconnect the 3/8" line feeding the PTO back at the rear of tractor. Start the tractor. There should be NO oil coming out of the line from the valve, and the PTO should not be turning. If PTO is turning you are looking at a broken or worn brake, or warped plates. The PTO housing will have to be removed from rear of tractor to repair. Caution!!, if brake shoe has broken off, it can wedge under bull gear and push a hole into the bottom of the tranny housing.
