American Bosch PSB-4 pump

Guys-

I had to remove the fuel control barrel to disassemble it to clean out the varnish that gunked the thing up. Of course I didn't make a witness mark on the fuel barrel to match up the bell crank. Does anyone know the relative position of the bell crank to the fuel control barrel? I appreciate any info.

To you mean the control unit under the two bolt side cover? The eccentric sleeve pin location depends on which governor control pump has, internal spring is set up one way, external spring the opposite. If the engine has NOT run for awhile the plunger and/or the metering sleeve MAY be stuck to. If so parts WILL be broken first time engine is turned. Stick a small screwdriver or pick inside the control unit hole and see if the metering sleeve will move freely up/down. If not, best pull the pump as is where is, meaning DO NOT set the timing for removal. Hydraulic heads can be saved in most cases, but not if already broken..

Yes, exactly. The metering sleeve operates ok, I just need the relationship from the fulcrum arm to the fuel control barrel. I think everything else is good. I appreciate your expertise.

Just realized I didn't answer your question very well. The tractor starts and wants to run away when I have the fuel control barrel set to full open at Max governor rod extension. Won't deliver fuel at minimum setting for governor rod so I know it's something in between but want to minimize the try and cut and not wreck my tractor because of my stupidity. Thanks for any help.

OK, that's the right hand mount PSB. Clamp the control unit flat spots in a vise, with the sleeve pin hole down and to the RIGHT. Now the lever should be TOWARD the vise handle straight back at 90 degrees. What should happen with the unit in the pump is when the lever moves forward, the sleeve pin should go UP, and when the lever goes back the sleeve pin moves the sleeve DOWN. Make sure the control unit moves freely in the bore, if not clean it until it's free. Governor can't work right if it's sticking at all.

Dieseltech is there a chance I can see a picture of what you are talking about concerning the pump. I have yet to work on my sons tractor that has set for 4 years now and
i am afraid of a stuck injection pump. If it is damaged the tractor is done. We dont have the money to buy a pump.

If Dieseltech doesnt have a picture could someone else please share a picture of what dieseltech is describing
