1953 DC carburetor?

Had the DC out hooking to disc, running for 10-15 mins, then up and died at idle as if you turned it off, went over hit the button fired up immediately died, check fuel to carb, good, bowl was full, drained bowl and could blow through fuel line, needle was out of seat, ck spark, seemed good, shocked the $&@! Outa me, good arc on tester, removed and cleaned plugs, re cranked, plugs dry, left plug out while cranking, saw valves still moving, as all this cranking is going on carb is pouring fuel from inlet. Some sort of zenith carb, anyone know model , also how can carb shoot craps at idle with no stumble etc..any help would be great thanks Dustyah

Probably an 8964 carb. Bad I almost bet you will find it to be a spark problem. I would try a hot wire from the ignition side of the battery to the ignition side of the coil and see if it will run that way like it should. If it does then your problem is ignition. You need a good spark at all the plugs that jump a 1/4 inch gap or more. I use an old plug that I have opened the gap up on as a tester and almost never get a shock

somi went back armed with comp tester and mutimeter and set of plugs, did compression test 65-80 psi, does this seem right, installed new plugs, ohmed out kill switch for mag, all good, took wire off mag to eliminate short to ground, no change reinstalled, put spark tester back on to recheck spark, it started up, with a miss of course, I quickly killed it hooked up plug wire and turned on fuel, it started and ran for 15 mins, I killed it several times and restarted it, took for short drive, seems ok, problem is I dunno what I did, possible poor connection at mag shorting to ground, or coil failing slowly, can I still get coil and points for this critter, thanks Dusty

65-80 is all the compression you have? Was throttle wide open? Cranking speed OK? That's quite a bit of variation but not to panic. Recommend readjust the valves, then recheck with throttle open, if still low put a tablespoon or so of oil in each cylinder just before rechecking. If it comes up dramatically your rings are worn, if not probably valves.

Throttle open partially, cranking speed very low, as I had been cranking on it for hr or so the day before, so I'm not sure if that's 100% accurate
