1956 PTO Revisited.

Earlier I had posted about a problem with the PTO shift lever. The lever is positioned to the left rather than to the right like it should be. In order to engage the PTO I have to push the lever down instead of pulling it up. A member on this board wrote that the roll pin that engages with the shift fork (G10677) probably had went too far and ended up on the wrong side. By looking at the parts break down it looks like all I needed to do was to pull the shift shaft (G10452) towards the rear and turn it to the tight to reposition the roll pin. I tried that with no success. Now I'm thinking about removing the Welch plug (VT3399) on the right side of the PTO housing to gain access to the shift fork. If I'm lucky I might be able to pry the shift fork rearward, turn the shift shaft to right to reposition the roll pin. Wish me luck.

In case anyone is interested in this, my plan fixed my problem with the PTO lever being on the left side. The shift fork (G10677) is located next to where the welch plug hole is. After removing the welch plug (VT3399) I pried the shift fork back as far as I could, then pried the shift lever (G13464) out about 1/4". After I had everything in position I used a hammer to tap the shift lever over to the right side where it belongs. I used a plastic hydraulic hose cap to plug the inspection hole. This cap came off of a 1/2" hydraulic hose I purchased sometime in the past. It fit in the inspection hole perfectly.
