DC 4 restore

I have a bad habit of having too many projects going on at the same time. I'm trying to finish up my 530 gas engine assembly, which is close to being ready to run. Then I want to paint the 530 and case loader. I've had my 53 DC 4 in the shop for over two years to fixe a few oil leaks and paint the old girl. She's Been a good runner but needed painted. So I got a wild hair yesterday and decided to pull the DC 4s head and do a valve job. While I'm at it I will pull the sleeves and replace the O Rings and add a new set of rings. It's a 53 with live PTO, eagle hitch, foot clutch and heart shaped front bolster. I was surprised to find 3 7/8 Pistons, I thought the 53s had the 4 inch Pistons. Dick

Is it just the light, or is the piston that's down too clean? Oil or antifreeze getting into the bore? doesn't look like the gasket was blown.

Dick,

It is my understanding that 4" pistons were installed in tractors that were warehoused in Racine and 4" kits were offered to Case dealers for tractors that remained unsold on their lots. So, some '53 models would have 3 7/8" pistons. Not very many though. Don

I'd have to look at block and Pistons again, but #. 1 looks cleaner. They are all 4 carbined up a little. The head did not look too bad, but the valves need faced. It seeped between block and head when hot or when I pulled it and it had a little white/gray smoke when good and warm sometimes. I'll have to check the number on the head later. I'm leaving for Colorado for two weeks tomorrow AM to chase mule deer and elk. Dick
