Case 2470 electrical problems

Hello, today I dug the old Case 2470 after a long hibernation (bought a 4890 a few years back). Anyways, i start it up once in awhile to let it run and decided I am going to use it this fall to haul some dirt into the cattle yards. Anyways, started it up, had it running for awhile, unhooked the old Kewanne disc off of it and was messing around to see what it was all going to need. Long story short, I flipped the lights on to see if they still worked for the heck of it, instantly started to kill it. I quick flipped them back to the off position to save it and it kept running. Curious about it, I flipped them on again, this time there was no saving it. Instantly killed it. Turned them back off, went to try to start it, nothing. Wouldn't even turn over. After making sure it was all in neutral, I grabbed a screw driver to jump it off the starter. Turned over but still wouldn't start. So, needless to say, the tractor always shut off with the key. So I'm guessing the electric shut off or the key switch went to crap? Why would this happen when I flipped on the lights? Also the electric shut off, is that just the key switch in general or how do I tell? Sorry this sounds like a dumb post, I just didn't get time to check it out after it happened and I'm curious what I'm up against. Anyways, thank you in advance. Any help is appreciated!

Find your electric fuel valve and check to see if there is power to it. If there is check to see if it is open for fuel flow. If no power to the valve check the key switch. As for the lights causing the problem, I would check with an ammeter to see what the lights are drawing. if something in the lights are shorted it could have caused a breaker or some other weak link in the system to open . It is possible the fuel valve is on the same circuit.

Charge your batteries, to low of voltage to do anything.

Does your 2470 have electric shut off? My one has pull stop. It certainly sounds like it must be something on the fuel shut off side. Did you try bleeding it? If my 2470 stands for a long time it will start and die if I don't bleed it. I now always bleed it up before starting after more than a couple of weeks.

Sounds like you have an early yellow 2470.They had an electric shutoff at rear of pump.Just take and wire the lever forward so you can start it and then you can check out the electrical system.
