What is the color of Hy-tran? Reason for asking ,I will be looking at a tractor to see if 30 wt motor oil may have mixed with it. I want to see if the tractor has a suspect leaking seal. Thanks in advance. CM

originally HY-Tran was the same color as engine oil .after the merger with case it was called HY-Tran ultra and became red. i think it was mixed with ATF because case used ATF in the case o matic tractors and in the power shift tractors later on . you can tell HY Tran by the smell to me it smells like when we use to render lard

I remember that odor all too well as a young man on the farm/.Thanks for the responses!CM

In the era of the merger it was Hytran Plus. Ultra came later. I doubt if there is atf mixed in. The power shifts did not use atf. They used TFD.

yes they sure as heck did not add atf to it LOL neighbor had some old Hy-Tran cans from the IH days,, I was thinking it was red also but been too long, the reason they changed the oil was it would not blend well with certain oil additives others used, it will now blend with any oil they so claim,,

What is the currently recommended fluid for a case-o-matic? I'm fairly certain my 611B doesn't have it, looks like regular hydraulic oil. I'd like to do something about that before I have problems.
