case 1070 brake sticking

I'm putting new brake actuating balls on my 1070 because the left one sticks & old balls are rusty & are probably original. Everything else looks good including no leaks. My question is do I leave the balls & seats dry after cleaning the seats. I had the same problem on our 686 IH & new balls cured the sticking & a long time IH mechanic I know said to leave the seats & balls dry & not lube with anything so they would stay cleaner. There is some lube on the old ones & it looks like anti seize. Other than being hydraulic on the 1070 the brakes are pretty much the same. Forgot to mention the brake has very good petal. It's just the sticking problem.

Thanks, Dennis

I polish up the ball seats very well if they are rusty, I would never use anti seize on them though but I do wipe them with some engine oil before assembly to keep them from re rusting, replace all return springs and balls and disc's and she will stop on a dime again until someone leaves the park brake on, I like to set the park brake so it will not let you drive with it on if possible , also make sure you replace the rubber boot

The springs, discs & boot look very good so just going to replace the balls. I forgot about cleaning the splines too but I will. Never had a problem w/the parking brake.

Thanks for your help, Dennis

I highly suggest replacing the return springs on the acutating plates if they look good or not, this is what makes them stick,, your machine your call but to me they are well worth replacing

Only reason I didn't want to buy new springs is because the new ones I put on the 686 from the case ih dealer weren't very good. One broke while installing it & one fit loose. When I took the loose fitting spring back (no tension) the parts guy threw it back in the box w/the other new springs. Maybe the 1070 springs are different. I will buy new ones but if they break or have no tension the old ones go back on. They are very easy to install so they shouldn't break putting them on.

Thanks, Dennis
