sorry, could not resist on my other post..... Wanted to stir the pot....

the swell guy that sold me this bastardized tractor never did give me the shift lever finish plates that lay over all the levers. I really need to get these and work on getting this tractor winter ready and sealed up for rat protection.

Also wanted to ask the pros here that wrench on these, I think I asked yrs ago about fixing the centering detents on the levers so when the lever a lever is returned to neutral, you can feel it? Right now it is really frustrating to try to work between 1st and reverse. If I am not perfectly between 1st and 2nd, reverse is locked out and costs me a lot of time trying to hunt for gears.

Are you sure it is a problem with your detents ? I would check your shifter linkage first, quite often on the 8 speeds the linkage rods will get bent
causing the shift quadrants to not line up. Range, 1st and 2nt,3rd and 4th should be straight as an arrow. Reverse has two slight bends in it, if
you look at parts book they are apparent. After you get them straightened weld another rod the same size to them and they won't bend again.
This could very well be your problem. Paul
