Can main bearings be rolled in, in frame? Or does the engine need split out and crank come out?

Never a good idea to just do an in frame overhaul because you cannot mike the crank as you need to do and make sure the bearing areas and still with in spec

Bah, I know. I guess I just needed someone else to tell me to stop being a lazy sob and do it right.

Last weekend I pulled the 148 from my 311 to inspect and diagnose the low oil pressure. Looks like main bearings. I'll probably
overhaul while it's torn down.

It's pretty much apart accept the timing cover. I'm waiting on an impact socket to get the hand crank bolt off the front.

That's the same boat I'm in, we overhauled the top end and its running great, but most I can get out of it is 8PSI. It was very neglected on oil changes and fairly lower hour. We pulled the pump which has really good flow, checked its gears with feeler gauge to still be in spec. Cleaned the valve body up in the pump, its in good shape and moves freely, but the previous owner had shoved a ground down nut in behind the spring to try and boost pressure. Ordered a new spring from CNH, but can only get the 8PSI at full throttle. Kicking myself because we had it split and the top off and should have just done a full overhaul right then. Lessons learned.

I learned decades ago if you fix the top the bottom will soon fall out or if you fix the bottom the top will go out. So now if I am going to do one I do the whole thing because in the long run you save a lot of $$

ad an overheated Nissan minivan in, blew a hose and warped the head so bad it had zero compression. Told the customers it needed rings too, it was going to smoke otherwise, but they cheaped out. Whattayaknow, looked like a charcoal factory. They tried to sue but I had the paper signed. When they asked how much to fix it afterwards I just sent 'em packing.
