'53 SC brakes: need missing parts and info. inquiry..

Back again as my SC rehab continues. Having gotten my late model SC back home, one of the things I need to address is the individual dif. brakes: right side works, but doesn't hold well. (Glazed disks?) Left side has missing parts: Looking at the brake housing and the rubber boot that sits under it, slopping somewhat toward the rear, I have that. However, the threaded rod emerging from that boot and the long special adjusting nut are both missing. I'm guessing previous owner cranked on that long nut and it was so frozen he snapped the whole rod off. This is the rod that slips through the, "toggle," casting.

So, anyone have parts for late brakes? Also, if I remove the bolts holding the brake housing, is there anything I should know about what is underneath? (I have parts book, so can see that much, but no late model repair manual for these brakes) I'm thinking I can pull that off without having parts flying all over. (Never looked into one before) That would verify if additional damage is evident.

Thoughts? Thanks, Dennis

I would bet John Saeli has what you need if this site does not,, these are from the "D" series book but I am betting they are the same brake as the "S" series had at the last as well, I can email these if you like send me a email @
[email protected] if so

Yes, it would be wonderful it you could email that to me. If you click on my name, (where I post), there is an, "email," option on the right. Clicking on that should enable you to send to me. I'm not sure this will take an email if I write it here. I'll do this: it's, " dbtrail " and the mail service I use is " gmail.com "

Two figures you sent show the parts I have missing: fig. 73 labels one, " brake adjusting nut, " which is missing along with the rod attached to it that disappears into the brake housing. Won't know what else is in trouble, (if it is), until I pull the housing.

Thank you. Got 3 attachments. Each was for a half-page. I replied to you with email. Big help as I can see a lot more.

Steiners has the rubber boots and linings. The rod would not be hard to make. Buy a clevis and smooth rod from any farm supply store thread one end of the rod with fine threaded die. Then weld the rod to the clevis.

For the nut. I'm sure a machine shop could make one. You might be able to use a 'long nut' and cut it off..

Hello Dennis the DC images case nutty posted are the same images for the SC but the discs are smaller on the SC tractors so I am not sure if the Clevis will be the same. I will take a look this week to see if I can tell any difference, I think I have one of each pulled off in the shop.

Thanks, Mike:
Actually, if my wife decides to go to an, "antique-ie," thing in Lewiston this coming weekend, we might even pass by your place. On the other hand, when she gets on a mission, other things are not on the schedule.

Holler if you come through, I think I will be around, my wife will have a booth down at the antique show. I'll most likely help her set up( gotta make sure not to many of my treasures end up in her booth).
