a/c compressor for 2394

My 2394 needs an a/c compressor. For about $150 more than the old style York compressor I can convert it to the new style Sanden. Does anyone have an opinion?

If it's a "drop in" replacement, I would go with the Sanden; seals seem to last longer for me than the York.

I have used both and they both offer different advantages. Have to remember the unit on your 2394 is 30 years old, not bad for a compressor. Rod.

Honestly, I have had pretty good luck with the Yorks. My first cab tractor was a 1070 and for several years the tensioner pulley for the a/c gave fits (the bracket kept breaking), and I keep looking for a way to have a shorter a/c belt. The 94 series does have a much better mounting system.

Do you know why yours went bad, generaly it is dirty condenser to much heat and head press.or the front seal went to leaking,as Dave stated that is 80% of my problems, the rotary is a better choice but keep in mind you have to get the hoses to hook up,have not had great success w/rebuilt if you can find new I would stay w/York.

I just finished a york to sanden conversion on my 2294 and am happy with the change but I guess part of my decision was based on the fact that I wanted to switch over to R134 as well, If you plan on staying with R12 your just as well off to stay with the york compressor. If your going to use R134 then I would suggest taking the time and money to switch to the sanden. If you do choose to switch I would suggest one of the kits from AP air I was very happy with the kit I got from them and it included a New genuine Sanden compressor, not a cheap chinese knock off or rebuilt.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. The York compressor would be a re-man. The tractor already has been converted to 134. I will call AP Air to see what they supply. Jeremy, I take it you are talking about the company in Humbolt, Iowa?

Checked on the price of a re-man York; $375 compressor only. No valves or clutch. Checked with AP Air about the Sanden conversion. Have to go thru a dealer. Local dealer priced the kit for $475 plus freight. Includes new Sanden compressor, Schrader valves, expansion valve, clutch, belt, dryer, and mounting hardware. No additional hoses needed. Should be complete with everything except freon.
