Case SC front weight

Today I was sandblasting my front casting on the Case SC that I am restoring. I have the casting off the tractor and sitting on blocks outside while I sandblast and prime paint it. I noticed that this tractor has the extra weight inside that big front casting. I could not figure out how it is held in there. I don't see any bolts holding it in. I tried prying on it and hitting with a punch from the bottom, but it seems solidly in place. What holds it in there?

It just sits there nice and snug. It tends to become one with the front end, years of dirt and moisturehelp lock it in. I had the same question a few months back. I wanted mine out so I could clean prime and paint. It's heavy, I sprayed around the outside with CRC, broke it loose with a pry bar and stood over it and pulled it out with a hay hook. The good men of this forum advised me how it was done. It worked great for me good luck.

Tiz true they just sit in there. I have several extra ones around. Flat on top , crazy shaped on the bottom. Would make a good blacksmith forming tool.

When the tractor was in its younger days the weight would rattle when the front end bounced. I remember Dad talking about it.

Our SC had one of those darn wts. for many yrs. Finally got tired of it banging around, lifted it out with a hay hook and cut some old rubber to fit under it and sat it back down. That was much better. Latter on it got removed for good when we put a loader on the SC. Now the loader is gone and the SC stears easier. clint

Thanks for the replies. Mine is stuck in there real good. Now I can get rougher with it in pounding it out knowing there are no bolts holding it in.
