Hello all--need info on this clutch set-up, believe it is the borg&beck 2-stage. so far, I have adjusted the 3 small set screws on pressure plate--[turn cw to stop, back out 2 rds,] info found in archives]. the main clutch works great,& can feel 2nd stage, PTO will not release. I blocked the P plate fingers, & found I could remove all the bolts thru access hole-this let the unit slip back on my dowel bolts, & I could put pto in gear--shaft would turn-, THE DISC is not stuck to flywheel, etc so I am trying to wrap my head around how the apply plate works, & is it stuck, broken--chance to free it up without a split.? I have washed it down w/brake cleaner, as best you can thru ports] PS--already tried making it release with mower attached, may try again after this work. Thanks for any input---

You realize there are 2 clutch discs? The one you can see is for the transmission, the one for the PTO hides inside the flywheel, sandwiched between a toothed cast iron plate and the flywheel.

Only way I know to see the PTO disc is splitting.

Splitting a 990 isn't a big deal if you have someplace hard to jack/crib it.

yes I know there are 2 discs. my thinking was when I can make the pto disc [one against flywheel] free up by moving the pressure plate back slightly, that the plate that releases it has a prob. disc could be damaged,[lining balled up], just don't feel like it when I rotate pto shaft-[p plate backed off. split don't look bad' just not prepared to at this time---I read about possible disc steel plate sticking in pressure plate, just chasing that around. thanks for your reply---
