If I cut/resurface the flywheel do I need to shim between the flywheel and crank? Just put it all back together and have no clutch, wont disengage. Adjusting rod is all the way in and can't go farther.

No. The clutch plate will sit on the transmission spline just a few thousands ahead of where it was before. Make sure that spline is not warn bad from the clutch plate. That can cause the plate to bind with the shaft and not slide the little bit rearward to disengage with the flywheel. Some flywheels have the clutch pressure plate mounted on a different plane than the surface of the clutch lining. In this case the machine shop needs to grind the same amount off both surfaces. This is not your problem unless they ground far more off the mounting surface than the wear surface. Was your clutch plate in backwards?

I did have some problems putting it back together. When I installed it this way and tried to slide it together it wouldn't go. I took it back apart and found that the clutch splines didn't want to nicely slide together. When I tried to slide it on backwards it would go but turn it around and no go. I lightly filed the burs on the input shaft and it still wasnt happy. I filed the clutch plate to get it to slide together the right way easily.

If you tried to force mating of the bell housing/engine block the friction disc hub will be deformed toward the engine. If the hub did not spring back to the original shape when you took it back apart to dress up the splines than it will not declutch when reinstalled.

You need to check the shape of the hub against the original disc hub and press it the same or buy a new friction disc if the hub can not be restored to the original shape.

You didn't by chance put the disk in backwards did you?? If you did that will cause the problems your having don't ask how I learned that one

Alright, unhook the rod and pull on it with your hand, you should be able to feel the throwout hit the fingers. From the picture it looks like they need to be adjusted.

I cracked it open again to verify the clutch was correct. I guess i need to adjust the fingers.
