Case 830 Ring & Pinion

Hi there,
I have a 65 Case 830 Comfort King, row crop it is not a Case-O-Matic. The bearing on the front of the pinion shaft went out and trashed the pinion and broke some teeth on the ring gear. I got on Ebay and bought a brand new in the box ring and pinion, when I got it home the pinion has 10 teeth instead of 9. Both ring gears have 49 teeth. I was wondering if anyone has put the 10 instead of the 9 and what it did to the tractors speeds. The shaft is the same in every way other than the amount of teeth. What would be the different application between the two shaft? Thanks! Nick

If i did the math right the 9X49 is a 5.4 gear ratio and the 10X49 is a 4.9 so the 10 tooth pinion would slow your tractor down a little bit

According to the 830 parts book there were four different gear sets available. It looks like different gear ratios were used in general purpose, western, grove, etc.

Multiply top speed in any gear with 9 tooth pinion by 1.1111 for top speed with 10 tooth pinion.
