Quill question VAI

I had to remove the quill to get the throw out fork off of it. Now that it's out I was thinking I'd use it to align the clutch which I'm also replacing. My question if I pull the input shaft, the last snap right will keep all the washer and bearings on the input shaft? I'n not going to drop something in the trans by taking this out right?

I am pretty sure this has never been removed. The quill had the VT part number on the oil seal for the shaft and it didn't want to come off easily. Is this blue stuff a gasket or a shim? How should I button this up? I'm not sure if I should just slide it back together because those are shims or if I need to tear that blue stuff off and make a gasket.

Also having a heck of a time getting the oil seal out after 70 years of being in there.

Thanks !
Bill

I would NOT pull the input shaft just to align the clutch. You can get it a lot closer to centered just by looking at the spline, and the clutch plate around the outside lined up with the pressure plate. If mine I would remove all the shims and gasket and put a thin layer of silicone on both sides. If tapered bearings the 65 years of wear will take up the difference. Check for preload on the shaft once tightened up.
