Case D loose Steering sector

I could use some guidance, my D has a lot of loose play in the steering gear. I see there is an adjustment screw and lock nut. From the picture in the parts book, I am not sure just what tighten that screw will do.
Part number 07174AB1 Described as Screw, Adjusting, Steering drip arm shaft.
Is anyone familiar with this adjustment. or most likely all the parts will be so worn that no amount of screwing will cure my free travel.
Any thoughts on this.
 
Go to modern view and do a search in the archives on steering adjustments there are several and relatively easy
I would start by rotating the steering drop arm one- half revelution.

It depends upon where the wear is on your steering system. The adjusting nut you refer to is very seldom the cause of the problem. It can be bad bearings at the bottom of the steering shaft, loose gears at the bottom of the steering shaft assembly (quite common), worn gears or a few other problems. Typically you need to remove the transmission cover/steering gear assembly to address the problem if it is not in the linkage parts. Don
