The Uses For Diff-lock

A couple years ago a fellow mentioned I should use diff lock on the 1270 when spraying. At the time I thought it would do no good, but I tried it once and it was easier to keep the tractor going straight with it on. I then began using it when planting also and it certainly helps going straight there also. I have been hauling beans to town with the 1370. Accidentally I engaged the diff lock going down the road. On this short wheel base tractor I was able to drive straight down the road with less wagon wandering also.Just have to remember to tap a brake BEFOREyou get to a turn. Diff lock, try it I think you will like the other uses besides just heavy drawbar pulling. Rod.

not a good idea on asphalt or very hard ground, unless your tires are EXACTLY the same height, lotta stress in the dif. my $0.02
 
Tires and pressure are the same on my tractors, if they were not the tractor would want to go to either side, not good and the difflock could not be used of course. Most
of my travel hauling is gravel, but the benefits of driving straighter is noticable on both. Properly set up and used the tractor handles better making it safer for the
operator and other traffic. That is what my results are using it, others may have different conditions and results, but it does not hurt to try, Rod.
 
That sounds like something I should try on ours. We run IH for farming, and smaller diesel Fords for the drilling and spraying. They all have diff locks, but we use them so infrequently, if we do use them, they'll usually stick on lol. Just the reason I need to start using them more.

My uncle used to say that the diff lock on his 4020 deere would let him go twice as far into the mud hole before he got stuck!
 
LOL, I never could understand why some people had the urge to try to drive through mud holes. Take the difflock off and go around. Rod.
