Here's another detail on my SC. Solid square bar bolted across main case casting. Vertical open-through tube welded to end of it. I suppose previous owner, "stuck," something in that but can't imagine what. Crank? It is using main case bolts, so makes me wonder if anything else was ever mounted across that area. I guess I could use if for a flag holder..............

At one time , the state of Ill.made all farm tractors desplay a red flag of a certain size mounted between 7 feet and ten feet above the road surface when traveling on any road in Ill.
Looks like it mite of been a mount for the red flag. Been there, done it. No flag cost me several dollars fine. clint

If I had that on a tractor I would use it to store the T wrench for the chainsaw, probably, but I don't suppose that's what that one was for originally.

I do not have a parts book but I think the cast part of the tractor there was a bar to mount a fertilizer side dress attachment to use on lay by with the cultivator.

That makes sense too. This bar is mounted to cast, "ribs," on the to of the block/trans/bell housing case. Those ribs are drilled and tapped, so the factory intended
that to be a convenience spot for mounting....."things."
We're just getting closer to...what...
