Re: 41 DC project

Offer him the going rate for scrap iron in your area. It'll weigh about 2 1/2 tons, and he won't have to haul it to the
salvage yard. That would be a fair offer in our part of the world. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Could you post a pic of the team of horses made out of corn stalks again? I was telling a friend of mine about that creation and of course we could not find it. Thanks.

I hate people that won't put a price on their stuff they are trying to sell. When they ask what I will pay I start on the low side. If they think I am going to throw out a big number they have another thing coming! As for people that don't put a price on craigslist or in the news paper I have found they usually want a big price and I don't even usually bother with them. The first step in selling something is knowing what you would like to get out of it.

I agree I do the same thing. But when I post some thing that is for sale that is what I want . Its always a more than fair price and a noted firm price. If they suggest 100$ lower I Suggest 100$ more and I stick to it or I just tell em they are apparently not interested and tell em thank you and hang up. The point is some folks know the value of what there selling and lowballing them after they already know the price is firm is offensive. You can post this is a firm price but still you get folks who cant read and just want something for nothing. There nothing wrong with getting a great deal but if the price is firm you may not be helping yourself by asking Firm tells me they will not negotiate and it may not be a good idea to ask.

Reminds me of the time I was selling a Toro ZTR mower with a trailer. Very reasonable price, under $3k for a $10k (new) setup with 600 hours on it. A guy calls me up and offers up a couple of fightin' chickens. He says they're real winners. I said "go fight them this weekend and bring me the winnings, and the mower's yours."

The tractor I'm looking at doesn't run, doesn't have good tires, quite frankly only has about $2-300 worth of parts on it that I need, and that's basically prices I see on Ebay, except for that front wheel, which I'd think would be worth about $200 tops due to it's rarity. He has it listed for $1k/obo. We're not even close, but he did say he needs it gone, and will make me a good deal. He did say it's not worth even scrapping right now, so his value must be north of the $125 you might get these days at the scrapper for it. I'll call him again this week, try to strike a deal.

Looking good. What are your plans once your done? parades and shows? The Dc's have a very unique sound in my opinion.I grew up running a 1952 Dc with a stanhoist loader.Worked great for pushing snow usually in 3rd gear. Good times thats for sure.

Yes, parades and shows, and the occasional ride around the neighborhood. There are a few tractors in the neighborhood, even though there's never been any farming going on around here. One guy has a few green tractors, including a hi crop and an A, parked out front of his house a couple blocks down.

Nice progress! More than I've made around here in awhile, and I'm glad you're able to use those parts. Looking forward to seeing it running...

Thanks again, Ken! We ended up taking the long way home through Lake Havasu City, the wife wanted to see the London Bridge. Got home that night and got another surprise, my daughter who lives in Hawaii was at the house, surprise visit. Great day, overall.
