Tried starting the so that sat all winter, fires once or twice and dies. Fires right up but dies? I have spark or it would not fire I assume. Had the
carb off twice and took it apart to check everything and blow out the ports. I seem to be getting gas to the carb. Has me stumped. Dick

When you open the drain on the carb you get a steady stream of gas coming out? It does Sounds like its not getting gas.

Never assume anything check!!!!!!!!!
#1 check that you have a good blue/white spark at the center wire of the cap and at all the plug wires that jumps a 1/4 inch gap or more. Just because it fires some time does not mean it is not loosing spark right after it fires due to dirty points.

#2 pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas that will fill a pint jar in under 3 minutes and yes catch it to look for water and dirt etc.

#3 when was the last time you serviced the air cleaner?? It could be full of mud and water and if it is it will not run well

A bad condenser in a distributor if you have one on it will do the same thing run a little then quit run a little then quit till it finally wont start don't know about how it might affect a mag. Had it happen on my SC and a 71 olds cutlass. If you follow olds advice he will probably be more help. Just thought I throw that out there

Try a clip on wire from the pos post of the battery (assuming negative ground) to the pos post of the coil. See if runs and when you disconnect the clip if it then dies.

It has a mag. I put a light tester on a couple plugs and had spark. Whether it is enough spark? I did find the float was not moving due to the pin being tight not letting the float move. Fixed that . I,m going. To check my gas flow again and possibly swap mags out.

My L Case had a similar problem. It would fire only once but not run. It was a mag problem. The generator portion was too weak at very low rpm.

The impulse turns a mag at high rpm for a split second and that fires a plug. When the impulse kicks out, the mag then turns at low rpm and speeds up as the engine speeds up. If the mag generator will not create enough voltage at low rpm the engine will not run.

The L would run fine when pull-started and the mag turning fast enough to fire without the impulse. I figured the impulse springs had gotten weak and would not hold the impulse engage for a second and third firing creating enough rpm to fire without the impulse.

I think your mag problem could be impulse related or mag generator related or condenser related.
