830 draftomatic parts interchange with 970

Found a source of water intrusion on the 830. the draft sense adjuster shaft was worn, along with the seal and the housing cover. Lots of goo inside, some moldy-looking. The draft sense adjust shaft was pretty bad, as the previous owners had not replaced the platform bolts at some point many years ago--I got some work to do on those bolts yet. Decided to go to the salvage yard instead of monkeying with bushings and speedi-sleeves. Found the linkage/shaft I needed on a shelf, it was marked 970. Then I eventually found a cover that looked right, but it was aluminum instead of iron. Time was fighting me, so I chanced it. got out the door for $25--that's cheaper than the speedi sleeve I was considering! Everything went together fairly well, the clocking of the raise/lower arm splines fought me a little, but I got it. The aluminum cover has stops inside so I need to adjust some external linkage(s) to make it perfect. Raise and lower seem right and no water should get in for a few years now. Discovered the lower sense springs and related parts are too worn to adjust properly, another project for my list.

Interchangeable parts are nice. Summary is when in doubt, 730 and bigger draft o matic parts and 70 series draft o matic parts are likely interchangeable.

should be the same all the way to 4890 on the DOM valve, little know fact Versitile bought those valves from Case for their 4x4's

also want to add that the seal installation tool I've seen asked about in the archives or other forums isn't only for protection from the spline. It's also helpful for getting past the circumferential groove in the raise/lower shaft just below the splines. the seal lip will flip inside out on that groove if you aren't paying attention without using the tool. whoops!
