I have a 870 gas open station 8spd. The gas tank leaks. How hard is it to pull the tank. Can I just take the one piece cowling that is in front & on top of the tank off & lift it out or do I need to take the seat & fenders off also. Is it just the four studs on the bottom of the tank that I can see that hold it on or is there some more that I haven't found yet. Thanks Gerald

Sorry no real help on a gas, here is a link to the parts page,, on the dsl all that holds them is the two thin straps , they have three places of entry on the bottom, one for the water trap one for the return and one for the fuel shut off valve, on the cab ones there is a plate you have to pull and unsrew the three fittings into the grommets, be sure to drain fuel first lol

Gerald, You do Not have to remove the seat or fenders but the fenders could provide some resistance on removing the tank. The cover you describe does need removing. The 4 studs you refer to are on the end of tie-down straps similar to steel banding straps and you need to be careful not to twist/break, the strapping that the studs are riveted to. Just get the nuts of the rear two studs and pull the straps up, and work the tank out of it's nest. Be real careful to NOT catch the shutoff valve on the hole in the platform.

I have a source for a new aftermarket tank for $445.00, installed one on a 1070 and fit good. Emal is open

Can you see where it is leaking,if you can, you can get some seal-all, you can get it at Menards in the plumbing dept, or some Dollar General carry it also. Even if the it's wet with gas, it will stop the leak !!! Sells for less than $2.00.
