I have a david brown 1200 it has about 27 pounds of oil pressure. Is that normal or should it carry more.

Most I have put a gauge on will have 40 PSI or a touch better when the relief valve opens.

The idiot light is supposed to come on at 7#.

DO you have 27# at all speeds, hot or cold, or just wide open cold.

The relief valve is adjustable by pulling the oil pan.

a diesel 4020 deere will carry 20 -30 wide open . maybe 10 at idle ,. they were made that way ,,. same as the ol letter series molenes ,,5-15 lbs is all they carried ,a VAC Case is great at 15lbs , a strong Case DC should have 35lbs , however , my 54 DC only carries 10 lbs and barely 3 lbs at hot idle ,, i have disced all day and run that way for the 15 yrs i have owned it .when cold it has 25 lbs ,.. p-Owner did not change out cam bearings.once the oil is warmed it slips rite thru there . my 800 has low oil pressure for probably the same reasons .. but all run fine .My f-600 with 391 ,will worry ya to death when the oil pressure guage stiks at zero in extreme cold . never clatters or knox and by the timei get to the hiway it is good ,, but occassionaly i t will falter. i suspect a clunk of filth in the line.from the 15 yrs this motor set before getting woke up again .///// i agree none of these are David Browns ,and i honestly dont know what is normal for db engines ,Although i do own a D-brown 1210 . the guage is not working ,.. i am only offering my knowledge of the wide range and differences of the many engines i have around here ,, personally i like idiot lites without pressure they WILL Lite ,. . computerized dashes on GM Cars will LIE, and make you think your oil pressure is good when there is scarcely any oil at all in the crankcase,. i have a daughter -in law, that ruined her engine, mechanical guages plug with crud ,, on my grain truk i used atf to clean the engine before changing the oil ,. and i think it did .. about the only reliable oil pressure is on a cummins motor,,. they all run 42 lbs,. and seldom vary 5 lbs,,. hope this does not confuse you,,. it is not meant to , i only wanted to prove out that there isa wide range of differences ,, Bottom LINE,,.if you suspect a engine isnot oiling properly??? shut THE DURNTHANG DOWN ,. and chek it out ...

olgentdc, the DC series do not have cam bearings, the cam runs right in the block, DCs have poured Babbit bearings with shim adjustment on the mains and rods and yours could probably use a good going over. the DC oil pumps are also a pretty loose fit setup, I always take the body down till the gears have minimal running clearance. with the cover. an engine with a round shaft, good tight pump and properly set up bearings will idle hot or cold at 35 lbs. If I knew how to post pics I would show you a pic of my 39 oil pan set up for full flow oiling to keep clutch crap out of my bearings.
