1938 Case Model L

Question fer all y'all???

I desperately need an input shaft and pinion from the clutch to the first ring in the rearend and i ain't found one yet. I am curious if the input shaft from an LA will fit. Or if anyone knows where i could find one that would be very cool.

I think those 2 gears are matched pairs. Should replace both and set the backlash correctly.
Craig Brewer in Udall, KS use to have a lot of old tractors and parts.

I have a complete "L" here I would sell but I am not taking it out as the time to do it would make the parts price way too high

If the L is to the LA as the C is to the D the gears in the LA will be helical cut, and the L will be straight cut bevel gears. While you are in there it might be entirely possible to install LA gears with a 4th gear.

Have not been in touch with him in a long time. Bought a few Case tractors from him. He did live in Belle Plaine KS and I think he moved out to the farm outside Udall.
Might search White Pages on google for him. He was nice to deal with.

I had the same issue with my 38 L. Don Livingston should have the shaft and gear. If not, I believe I saw an L or two at Biewers yard in Barnesville MN.

My L had a chipped tooth but most of the replacements I found had badly worn clutch splines. You also need to know there are two different shaft styles. The newer has the gear made to the shaft and the older version the gear is pressed on the shaft and held with a nut. Both interchangeable.

Like someone mentioned below, I was advised to install as a matched set (clutch input shaft/gear and belt pulley gear) if memory is correct.
