Case 530CK help - will not start

Hi all. New here with a 1965 Case 530 CK with loader and backhoe. I am new to diesel tractors but am pretty handy.

I recently bought the tractor and have not seen it run yet. The previous owner said it ran well until he let it sit for a year and the starter locked up. I bought a new starter and will now turn over. I tried starting it a few times but it didn't seem to be getting fuel. I emptied the tank, added new diesel, then bled the lines. It still does not want to run. I tried putting some starting fluid in the intake while turning over, but still nothing.

What's next? Please help...

Hate to say it but you may have a twisted off injection pump drive shaft, there is a "window" on the side of the pump, has two flat head screws holding it on, turn off the fuel tank valve so fuel does not continue to run out when you remove the cover, have some one crank the engine over and see if you can see movement there, you can see the timing marks there, one is stationary the other will rotate around while cranking if the drive/pump is turning
cnt

Remove the pump timing cover as Case Nutty mentioned, and see if the pump is turning over when the engine is cranked. If you see movement then the drive shaft is not broken, but anytime diesels set awhile internal parts will stick inside the pump, keeping it from getting fuel through the injectors. Just repaired a 580 CDC pump for the same problem..

Thanks for the replies.

When I was bleeding the fuel lines, I disconnected the line at the injector and would get a spurt of fuel out of the line while it was turning over. If the pump wasn't turning, I wouldn't get anything out, correct?

Correct, if you see a small fuel shot at each injector with the line nuts loose injection pump is working. With the lines tight engine should either start and run, or lots of white smoke at the exhaust, meaning fuel is getting into the chambers.

Thanks guys. It sounds like it is still not getting fuel then. There is no smoke at all coming from the exhaust. When I bled the lines, I disconnected them and turned over the engine. It sounds like I should have just loosened them?

If the pump is not generating enough pressure, how hard is a "rebuild"/"reseal"? I see the kits are fairly cheap if I want to do it myself.

Sounds like maybe your air intake is closed. With either you should have gotten some smoke from the exhaust.

Did you check the fuel filter spool? When they set they can get plugged up and will act like a no fuel situation.

I was finally able to get to spend a little more time with the tractor and was able to get it running. I tried bleeding the lines again and started getting a slight white puff. I continued to bleed the lines until I was getting consistent white smoke coming out of the exhaust. However, it was still not starting. I hooked up some jumper cables to my truck to give it a boost and she fired right up. I guess a new battery is in store.

So after I got it started, I found out there was no steering and a leak in one of the backhoe hoses. I refilled the hydraulic steering pump and steering is now good. I've got a new hose now but haven't put it on yet. The hydraulics feel strong and I was able to perform all actions (with exception of curling the backhoe bucket due to the broken hose).

Now my issue is that it won't move. It feels like the clutch is not working. It grinds when I try to put it in gear, and if I ease it in, it seems to try to move forward but doesn't actually go anywhere. I checked the transmission fluid and it is pretty high - about 1 inch above full on the dip stick. I'm going to go read some similar threads and post back when I have more knowledge about the system.

Thanks everyone for your help!
