Early 1270 brakes, have to pump them to work

Not all that familiar with Case tractors, but the brakes act like automotive brakes. With the pedal depressed there is a good short flow of oil then is slows to nothing, shouldn't there be a nice solid flow as along as the pedal is depressed? Either side is the same. Hooked up a flow meter to check pump flow, had 6.25 gpm free flow, spec 7.0 and at 1750 psi it had 5.75, should have 6.5, steering is not as easy to turn as I think it should be, but the lower spindle thrust washers are gone and spindles are cocked in there for now, need to jack up the tractor and see how it steers with no weight on the wheels. thanks chris

There is no need to pump the pedals while bleeding those brake systems. Just have tractor running and open bleed screws one at a time, let oil run out for about a minute. They will spit and sputter a bit if air is present, then when a constant oil stream appears close bleeder and your done.

Rod I wasn't pumping them to bleed, before I started looking the tractor over, to make the brakes grab and hold, it required a second stroke of the pedal to get the tractor to slow down to stop. The first action of the pedals did nothing. thanks chris

That is because there is air in the line to the brake cylinders. Bleed them as Rod said and all should be OK.

If you have good brakes with the second pump of the pedal the self adjusters have not kept up with the brake disc wear. You will have to take the brakes apart and replace the discs. The self adjusters will have to be reset or replaced also.

Had similar issues with the 90 series small transmission tractors, the brake discs would warp and the second push was necessary to apply the brakes after the first flattened them out, that may not be the case here as the bigger transmissions had a different design brake. Just throwing it out there.
