Posted earlier on fuel leaking into lube oil.
Replaced pump shaft seal. Seal available from NAPA...cross it from the CASEIH 3078355R2. Pump shaft a bit loose. I lightly staked the edge of the bushing all around to reduce the play, but of course that's a band-aid. I don't know how long the new seal will last.
So it runs and my client will be watching oil level. It does smoke more now and almost has a slight occasional miss. Since I firmly believe I maintained the timing by aligning and marking everything, I think I have an air leak...acts that way. I'll replace the copper seals on the plumbing, but if it continues to smoke, are there any other ideas that might apply here?
BUT, the pump will need work or replacement. D&C Diesel offers a CAV replacement for this engine to eliminate the Bosch VA4, as they are getting scarce.
I owned a B275 that had a Bosch VA from a Peugeot, but originally the B275s had CAV pumps.
So what are the options? I'd consider resealing this pump myself, having done a VE but can't find a seal kit for the VA. I know the front bushing will need replacing and a machineshop precision reamer. For this client, this is the main tractor, so I need to do something foolproof.
