I'm new to this world of tractors and having a need for one. I recently purchased a new home with a couple of acres and have a dragonfruit farm in the works. I've been watching all of the tractors on Craigslist and came across one that to me seems like a good deal. Wondering if anyone can tell me if a purchase like this is a good idea? Are these machines reliable? is it possible to find parts to make repairs? Types of things to check when going to look at it? Any help is very much appreciated. The info I have is its a case 1000 track loader, the ad says it runs well and to come test it out. It doesn't have the manufacture year, or hours in the ad. The seller is asking $5,000.

We had 2 of these on the farm back in
the 80's. A dozer and a loader. Make sure you get the transmission oil up to temperature to be sure that the torque converter doesn't slip. They
were a good machine, but hard to find
parts for back then. Had issues with
heads cracking on both. They both went
for scrap when the price was high. It
would be a gamble on buying one. How
lucky are you? I still have the
services manuals for them if anyone is
interest.

Mike ,
Being that I have several 1000's and some for parts ,I
I think the price is high. The last one I bought was 2500.00
These are mixed , from the early 1000 to the 1000D , one
loader I had since the winter of 67-68. I like the the
torsion bar suspension , makes it ride and handle better.
Ripper is nice on a loader bur much more useful on a dozer.
I have an engine shop and rebuild the engines ,have to
make some parts out of other engine parts.
Send me an email with a phone number and I'll call you.
Get some pictures and I'll pick it apart for you.

George ...

What! Have I finally found the answer!?

I have a Case 1000D with a blown rod. The local Case dealer and a well-known scrap operation keep telling me there "is no way" to get repair parts. I have a very seasoned mechanic ready to fix the machine, but we do need parts. Can you assist? Thank you.
