Case 2590 power shift reversing when depressing clutch

We have a Case 2590 that would shut off when the clutch was pushed in. Took the C1 and C3 pilot spools out and cleaned them now it runs like it should, but when trying to put it in gear it still grinds really bad. Anyone know what's the cause of this? Also when we push the clutch in and the power shift brake engages it starts reversing by itself.

off hand I would say that the c1 or c2 plates in the powershift got hot enough to warp while your spools were hanging up, the warping causes them to drag and causes the symptoms your describing, hopefully 1370Rod will join in and give you his opinion as he has been around alot more of these than the rest of us combined lol

Thanks for the swift reply we got out and fixed the spools ourselves yesterday but it did run for a while before it locked up after we got it out of the shop so that might be the case.

I think Jeremy answered your question, chances are some clutch plates got warped when the pilot spools were sticking and causing clutch packs to be engaged when they should not have been. That will cause grinding when trying to shift into gear and tractor trying to back-up with clutch depressed. You could confirm this by checking pressures, C-4 should be the only clutch with pressure with the clutch fully depressed. Rod.
