Case DB 990

Continuing, my tractor does not have a quadrant to raise the 3 pt hitch, is this what the lever on the left side is for?
What is the pull cable to the right of the link arm attaching point for?

Looks like the right side of the rockshaft housing is unbolted also.

Unless it runs great and you have a donor tractor, the prognosis isn't good.

Long lever on left of photo is your PTO selector lever. You are going to need a parts book, shop manual and probably a bunch of parts.

Got a parts book now, will get the service manual. Right now I'm just trying to get familiar with it and what is missing. I'll see if the engine runs later today or tomorrow. Former owner said he had it running but the fuel tank needs cleaning first.
Once it is running then I can make an informed decision on the hydraulics. I only need to move boats and bush hog with it.
I'm a marine mechanic so have most tools, have rebuild Ford trans and hydraulics, but know next to nothing about this particular tractor.

When the book says to use 10W30 oil in the transmission are they referring to motor oil?

yes engine oil.

They aren't real picky about the transmission oil. That 990 would have left the factory with 20W20, which is pretty much obsolete. I use 15W40 on ones that I work hard. Cheap yellow bucket Hytran on ones that aren't worked hard.

Your service manual is available in pdf format for free at this location:

https://sites.google.com/site/deerebrown/

Your service manual is about two thirds of the way down the page and the title is "David Brown 770-1412 Service Manual includes 770,780,880,885,990,995,996,1200,1210,1212,1410,1412,3800,4600". It is in one of the yellow "folders".

This is a factory manual, not I&T.

Your parts manual and operator's manual are on the same site (for free).

I probably have all the parts you need in my iron pile. If you want to stop by and pull them. I live in Lafayette, LA.
