I have a case 970 powershift that stalls in 2nd shift when it is cold. It usually clears up after warming up for a while. Is this a stuck pilot valve and if so which one? thanks in advance.

I had a similar issue with my 770 powershift, do a search for 1370Rod, he has a nice tutorial for cleaning the valve body located under the platform, I followed his instructions, cleaned the spools, works nicely now. Greg

When you say stalls, does that mean the engine labors or does it actually kill the engine? Will this occur shifting up from first and down from third also? With the tractor in neutral you can shift quickly from first up to third to see if it does the same thing shifting down into second. Rod.

I went up to the shop and started tractor, left in neutral shifting up to second and then down to second from third. It labors engine more from first to second quite a bit, then not hardly as much from third down to second. Thanks for your comments.

On the top of the power shift control valve there are two small hexhead screws sticking up with jam nuts. Loosen the jam nuts and back both out one turn, stop tighten jam nuts and try tractor again. Let us know if there is a change. Rod.

I backed both out one turn each and it still had a short lug on engine. Backed each out a quarter more and seems OK now. Is this too much? I really appreciate everyones advice and knowledge. THANKS a million!

Everything should be fine, oil temp, oil brand and piston seals all have a effect on that adjustment, Rod.
