1030 head valve protrusion

Might get by with -.030,-.o45 is a sure thing. Intake only exhaust doesn't matter but the higher the better for starting.

You got a negative sign there indicating valve recession, I think. I am wondering about protrusion, can I have any?

No the valves will hit the pistons as the intake valve starts to open before the piston gets to the top the intake is starting to open and the two will hit. I have gotten by with .030 recetion but to be safe I would set them at .045.Hope this helps.

I have installed exhaust valve seats that are .100" thicker than the originals and rounded the corner off so not to make hot spots. Second piston up and they are running. My 930 with valves this way pulls with the 2090.

Depends in the gasket thickness how close the intake valve is to the piston at overlap. I had the intake valves flush with the head on a HD277 Continental diesel head similar to the Case, and they had less than .010 clearance when intake started to open. Re-worked all four to .010 below flush so they would not hit. I prefer all valves close to flush or higher on any diesel to help with starting. Just had seats installed on an IH D282 to get them all .005 above the head. Also have a Waukesha 283 with all valves .080-.085 above the deck, where it was .040 below when I took it apart because it started hard cold. Both the IH and Waukesha are MUCH better now..

When the machine shop did my 931 heads, he raised all the seat heights. Intake valve heads flush with head surface. It starts and runs great.
