Recently I purchased this plaque on Ebay. I assume this must be a very old dealership. I can not imagine families parting with this history unless they are no longer any
members. Rod.

Last year my great grandfather's 93 year old niece gave me about 16 old threshing photos. Said no one in her family wanted them. The photos are of a Rumley. Great grandpa had a Sandusky model E. The photos are of him.

Rod,

That award comes from a little town called Newton, WI about 7 miles south of Manitowoc very near to Lake Michigan. The owner was Herman H. Eberhardt and his wife who owned it from the late 30's to the mid 60's. It was then purchased by Marvin Zimmer and closed about 1987 after surviving the merger, but having a big IH dealer only 7 miles away. We purchased an 830 COM from Marvin and he was wonderful to deal with. An interesting anecdote is that the Eberhardts still spoke German with many of their customers right up to the 60's. Don

There was a Case dealer 8 miles from Newton Il called Kocher Implement. they closed in the early seventies. The parts man would look up a part number and sing it till he found the part. Bearing on a chopper on 660 combine was F 84274.

Thanks Don, The person I purchased it from had no idea what the history was. I feel better now having it on the wall knowing a bit about the business and how devoted a family had to be sticking with Case for that long. Rod.

Hi Don,

This is a shot in the dark but, did Herman Eberhardt have a brother? Tony? There was a Tony Eberhardt that work in Case Credit out of Minneapolis, and I think Fargo at one time
Most of the guys working for Case were old farm boys

Rod, that is a great find, I know these Mom&Pop dealerships were the best as Don also said. I look at that award, as I have a few here from my Dad's dealership and say the same thing, why would a family let this go. But I know these awards have to handed down to the right people in the family, as I do know that many family members of this day and age could care less. (sigh)

Hello Dan,

I'm not aware of any family that the Eberhardt's from Newton may have had. My information came years ago from Marvin Zimmer, the last owner. You are certainly correct that many times Case farmers and dealers had family that worked for Case. Don

Thanks again for info Don. It was now easy to find out Herman H Eberhardt 1892-1983 was buried in Kossuth Twps WI. Mathilda was the name of his wife. As of yet I have been unable to locate a obituary to see if there was a family. Rod.

The dealership closed in 1987, a large auction was held at that time. About 10 years ago Marvin had an auction at his house and was selling most of his personal items from the dealership. I haven't seen Marvin in a few years but I do believe he is still around.

Hello Loren,

It was always Newton Implement that I am aware of, unless it was changed in the mid 80's. By that time Service Motor Company opened a branch near Green Bay, which was somewhat closer to our place. Marvin is now in an assisted living center, I'm told. He never got over the closing of the dealership. Don

Don, do you have a listing for Zimmer or Zimmerman equipment, perhaps in some other state ??? In the back of my head I remember when they were recognizing all the case dealers on a big screen in front of us dealers, at several meetings, that name was mentioned as one of their star dealers.
Loren

Loren,

How about Zimmerman Equipment in Bethel, PA? They lost out in the merger and less than a year later Case/IH was begging them to come back. Still in business. Don

As I said, I grew up in Newton WI and now live 15 miles north in the town of Kossuth. I do know some Eberharts. call me if you want 920 973-6729 Bill

Don, Have to make a correction to your previous post about Marv Zimmer. I have supper with Glen Zimmer, Marv's brother, almost every Friday night at our local KC Club. The posting about the Newton Hardware was mentioned tonight. Marv is still doing fine and drives a van for the McGregor Company almost every day. Until the last year or so he was driving Semi-trucks for McGregor.

Also, Glen told me he didn't buy Newton Implement directly from Herman H. Eberhardt. He actually bought it from a person named Smith. Now Glen didn't know the number of years Smith owned it before it was sold to Marv Zimmer, but he didn't think it was very many. If he sees his brother this week, he will ask him if he knows how long Smith had it.

Anyhow, just wanted to update the information on Marv Zimmer. Hope to get out to visit you this spring.

Al
