Cam shaft question

Are these marks normal on a cam shaft from a 1030? I have 3 used ones and they are all like this, so I'm wondering if it's normal or if I need to have one ground.

its the high part on the lobe that is the wear point. kinda looks like some wear there. but... are those three different cams in pic's? the second pic. even looks like galling on brg. surface.

That is the three cams. The tops of the lobes look good to me and the bearing surfaces are good on 2 of them and questionable on the third. So your saying that the rough looking parts are ok as long as they are not on the top of the lobe?

Jon the lifters can tell you a lot about the condition of the cam lobes. If the lifter face is concave and not convex chances are there is a issue with the lobe it was running on. The lobes can be miked and compared to the others as well as a visual inspection for any pitting. Rod.

Imsee no pitting or obvious wear on the lobes, just what looks like poor machining. The lifters all look good.

I would not use either 1 or 2 unless reground. Use number for a club. Cam is a long way into an engine to use anything questionable. Use new lifters or could reface in some instances.

The cam experts would tell you never to use a cam on a different lifter than it was broken in on and that a new or regrind should be used only with new or resurfaced lifters, The lifters as others have noted should be slightly convex, the lobes also have a slight tilt ground into them to cause lifter rotation as the cam wipes across it.

In the real world that we all live in cams and lifters are run mismatched without incident. In my opinion as another stated you are to deep intro it to cut corners. My grinder charges around $200.00 to do a 4 cylinder cam with an enhanced grind but the stock could be the same i suspect. Of course the 6 cyl would be more.
