2290 powershift

Greetings. I am a long time lurker of this site and have gotten lots of good information from many of you in the past, so thank you to everyone.

Right now I have an issue with my Case 2290. I have first and reverse on the powershift in all gears. Third in the powershift will engage but not "lock up" so only works when going downhill. The powershift valve body has been off (more than once). The spools were all polished, the spool runs were lightly honed and the borescope shows no serious scoring or ridges in the bore. The three plastic tubes are in place and have new o-rings. Everything in the powershift body seems to move like a swiss watch. There are no overt noises coming from the transmission and there were no sounds indicative of a major metal break when it quit.

I did pressure tests and the results were as follows: C1 - (1)175@idle-175@2000 rpm (2) 60@idle, 140@2000rpm (3) zero at idle and 2000rpm. C2 - (1) 175@idle, 175@2000rpm (2) 55@idle, 145@2000rpm (3) 55@idle, 145@2000rpm. C3 - (1) zero at both (2) 50@idle, 120@2000rpm (3) 50@idle, 120@2000rpm. C4 - zero on all. Lub - 55@idle, 65@2000 rpm on all.

The tractor was split a while ago by a dealer due to the tractor not moving. It came back on the truck and still did not move. It was found to be a PTO spool issue. They said they assumed it was the torque limiter and found nothing wrong when they split the tractor. It was not too many hours after getting the tractor back that the powershift calved out. I am not sure if the two are related and not making any accusations, just putting it out there as a possibility. I have tightened everything I can reach from the powershift port.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You have a problem in the C2-C3 clutch pack or the oil distributor. Either way these are the last parts out of the
powershift after you split the tractor. Good luck Stan

Thank you for the response Stan I appreciate you taking the time to respond to me.

That is what i was afraid of. I did not want to split the tractor if it was not necessary but apparently it is. Is there anything else I should be changing/swapping out/repairing (clutch plates etc) while I am in there or should I wait and see if things are worn before I order parts?

wait till you get it apart before you order anything, sometimes you get by with only an oring kit for the clutch packs and sometimes you will
find warped clutch plates and missing linings on others.
