Tires for 4894 scraper tractor

The 4894 I bought for a scraper tractor had poor tires. We have put several hours on it pulling a scraper and that is the primary purpose now. Someday it may do some tillage, but that is in the future. On other tractors I have always replaced all tires at the same time, but we are using it in rough ground with some rocks and sticks. Would like to get as much out of each tire as possible, because you never know when you will cut a tire. Radials will be $1500 each, bias $1000. If I put individual bias tires on as needed, will I damage the power train? The existing tires are radials and are about 40%.
 
I HIGHLY recommend against installing new tires with ones with 40% tread,, Very hard on powertrain,, just my opinion though but it may cost you much more than a set of tires will,, on duals you can run what you like, on the inside four they need to be matched or at least very close in size

This is on the front outside. How about replacing the two outside duals on the front only? What are your thoughts about using bias vs radials in this application. Also, what about mixing the bias and radials? This tractor seems very good and would hate to create problems. I guess the best route would be to replace the inside duals with new Firestone radials and move the inside tires to the outside.
 
outside duals are fine miss-matched, I have reduced air psi in the outer duals before 5-8 lbs to help them be closer in rim height,, as fro radial -bias mixing, I have done that before with no ill effects with radials on the inside and bias on the dual worked fine and on one tractor that had early radials that always power hopped it took all of it away

Tom, thanks for the help. I guess Monday morning I will start looking for tires. I have never bought a used tire, but maybe I will get lucky and find a single about 50% to replace the one tire that is bad now. Otherwise I will put new tires on the inside.
