Bosch pump governor seals

Has anyone put new bushings and o rings on the throttle shaft on Bosch PES6A pumps? Curious if it can be done by taking off just the back of the governor and not having to pull the injection pump off the tractor. The o rings and the gasket are leaking on our 970 and the parts are only $40. Thanks

You can pull the back cover off the pump, but there is a spring that you need to be careful of and be sure it is hooked back up correctly. Failure to do so will cause a engine overspeed. If I can do it, most likely you can too.

Yes, the RSV cover assembly can be removed on the engine. Most likely the bushings have already turned in the cover, and are loose. Just repaired a 1030 cover for the same trouble, after a teardown and cleaning I used epoxy on the bushings to hold them in place. The only way you could have an engine over speed on startup is IF you forget to attach the linkage to the control rack. There's a small spring that needs unhooked on removal, it's the starting spring. It will not cause over speed, but pulls the rack forward so the starting fuel adjusting screw at the rack front makes contact with the cap. Shims under the screw adjust the 100 RPM delivery on the test stand. Bosch cured the bushing trouble on later pumps with a two screw cover that clamps the bushing in place so it can't turn.

I got the spring disconnected but I can't pull the cover off, looks like the fuel rack is connected to something yet?? Its hard to get in there and see what it's hooked to.

There is a tab on one side of the linkage that connects the governor to the rack. flip the tab up and out of the way and the pin will disconnect from the rack easily.

Should have included this in my original post, I have successfully removed the bushing replaced seal and oring, cleaned and dried thoroughly, used loctite red on both sides of the oring on the outside of the bushing and use a heat gun to warm the loctite to set it, last many years, red loctite makes a perfect bushing which is very durable, I am sure that the epoxy mix works well also as that is DT's specialty, I'm just an ole farm boy who grew up astraddle of a 39 DC.

The Bosch RSV gasket kit is DGK 201, and the bushing # is 1 420 328 034. What usually causes the bushing to turn and then damage the housing is too many shims under the throttle lever. If the large outer O ring is compressed then it forces the bushing to turn with the shaft, wearing the housing instead of the shaft turning in the bushing as it should. If both housing bore and bushing are new, or no wear red Loctite works great. Pumps that are forty plus years old are another story, they are really loose anymore. The Stanadyne pilot tube epoxy is then the best way to hold the bushing in place. As Mel mentioned, make sure the link retaining tab is swiveled back in place over the link pin. If the link is not hooked to the rack correctly you will then witness a high RPM rod bolt test.. Heard it happened once at an IH dealer, it ain't pretty when the rods come out the side..
