David Brown 780 hydraulic remote?

Hey folks! Long time reader, new to the forum. I recently bought a DB 780, and am looking to add a remote valve to it. Do any of you know where I can fine one? I've looked around on the internet, but literally can't find anything! Would a remote valve from a 885 work?

Also if anyone knows the specifics on the differences between the 780 and 885 Selctomatic, I would really appreciate it. I know they have the same motor and gear box, from what I've read, but are there any other similarities?

Thanks in advance!

Chris

(quoted from post at 02:18:30 03/03/17) Remote valve will work off of an 885 thru 1210.

The remote valve will work for any newer DB(1967 or so through the 94 series), but he will need the base that goes on where the camels hump is so he can bolt the valve on. The base will need to come from a rear pump tractor. 880, 885, 990, 995 will be your likely donors.

780 is very similar specs, but not really the same as an 885.

Comparing the 2:

The 780 uses a lighter front axle and front frame, more like what a 770 uses, where the 885 has one more similar to a 990. Not a big deal unless you put a loader on it.

The engines are about 95% the same, the 885 one is just updated, biggest difference is the cylinder head and water pump.

885s generally has hydrostatic power steering, most 780s had manual(recirculating ball) steering with a drag link. A few high spec 780s had power assist steering.

780s were mostly a 6 speed, non-syncronized transmission, with a few having the 3rd stick and underdrive. All 885s were the synco 12 speed.

Most 885s had reversible category 1/2 three point hitch, 780s are Category 1.

885s have a bigger fuel tank, 12 gallons versus 8.

Awesome, thanks for all the info! I really appreciate it. Mine does have the power assist, and third stick. Boy would it be nice to have the synchronized trans though! I don't plan on adding a loader, as this will be mostly for baling small squares, and I have another tractor with FEL and four wheel drive for chores.

Would it be a bad idea to turn up the fuel a little to get around 40hp at the pto, or should it handle it okay? The tach doesn't work, but I can tell it's not tired by any means. I get almost no blow-by at all.

Thanks again for the help!

They left the factory at 42.9 PTO, Be advised, power won't be an issue with a square baler, but weight will. My 780 powers a 310NH or MF 124 fine, but with any hills and a wagon it gets pushed around badly

If you are getting your info from tractordata.com, they have some errors. It seems like they used some info for the 770 on the 780 page.

Oh wow, that's really good to know, thanks! That's plenty of hp for what I'm doing. Thankfully none of the fields I bale have hills that are worth mentioning. Also my IH #47 baler requires almost no hp to run. Ha ha. Last year I baled with my Ford 1715 with 23hp at the pto, and it did just fine. Now that I have the power I need, it would be great to get a higher capacity baler with a thrower :D

42.9 was with the throttle wide open. At 540 RPM on the PTO the power was 37, which is how it got advertised in some North American literature. I'll clarify the data.

Thanks! At what engine RPM is PTO speed? It doesn't say on my tach.
