Case 1370 - a little more power

Hello - new to the forum.

I've got a 1370 we purchased last year, as a project for my 13 year old son and I to work on. We participate with it in a local Farm Stock pulling class, and are looking to make some modest improvements.

So far, all we have done is basically clean it up, re-core the rad, re-pin the front axle, etc. We put a slightly larger turbo on it (a Garret T404E14). It ran decent last season, but we are looking to be a bit more competetive. Our class turbo size is a 2.75x3, which is what we would like to run. I'd like to stick with the stock A-pump, and get it benched. We just found a set of heads off a 90 series which would allow us to run screw in injectors, perhaps even a little oversized. Obviously we need enough fuel for the air, so we'd like an idea of what would work.

As for the heads - any point in getting them worked, maybe double sprung? What about cam options? Advice is welcome.

Finally, we are running a stock clutch, but are limited to 2500 RPMs. And we will be looking to split it next year, for clutch and trans upgrades.. Right now 1st powershift and reverse are rather weak.

Thanks for any input.

Has the pump rack starting screw been removed? Delivery valves cut? Find a larger 10MM injection pump like on the 2670, that would help too. Don't think you need double springs with a 2500 RPM limit..

Pull from top part of drawbar where roller should be, make plate to adjust to proper height, turn fuel screw 1/4 turn raise rpm to 2500 will give 300+hp BTDT. First place 3 years in a row 12500# farm class. Nearest competer was 20 ft behind. 20.8x38 BFG radials.

The fuel screw is under the very back plate on the governor, 4 screws.
Screw it IN 1/2 turn at a time and run it and check the eg temp, keep going till your happy.
I wouldn't go more than 1 1/2 tho.

Is this your 1370? Did you buy it in Essex, if so you bought it from me, how does it look now, I would like to see it. Did you do anything to powershift or just run it in 2nd and 3rd range. Give me a call if you want.

Hi Ben - yes, that's the one.

We flushed the trans, ran clean fluid, and it worked a bit better. Enough to move it around. If I can figure out how to post pics, I will add them on.

We pulled in 2/3, 3rd gear. It did okay, usually finished mid-pack. Now we would like to bump it up a bit.

Someone mentioned checking the linkage on the powershift for play. But I don't think that's the issue, sounds more like the clutches are slipping.

This is when we got it home. Pulled the cab off, stripped all the tins off. Then went through all the mechanicals.

I don't have alot of pictures of the process (wish I had taken more) - but I have one of it as we pulled last year. Also have some videos.

Glad to hear you got to pull with it, it almost became a donor
engine for this 930 but I found a 2670 and used the engine.
Then I sold the 1370 to you. Here is the 930 with the 2670
engine. If you get time text me the pics and videos,
Ben

We got it home, stripped the cab off. Then it went in the shop where we went through all the mechanicals. The only thing we didn't fix was the powershift. Put a little bigger turbo on it, and got some custom exhaust made up.

Then had to source rims and tires. If you remember, those old cast wheels were pretty much rotted out. Found a nice set of 38 steels, got them blasted and painted them up. Put hub adapters on it, and found some used rubber. Got the 16s for the front and painted them, new 4 ribs up front. Got the rad recored. That blew the budget for the year.

So this year were looking to add fuel, maybe some more air. And I still have to loose 5-600 lbs. Trying to get it to 10,500. Rock shaft might be the next to go.

I can post some links for videos:

Dave, I watched the videos yesterday, looks good, and looks
like she pulls pretty good.

The class is a bit of a hybrid. We sre trying to get a local circuit started up here, and the class we will run in is limited to a weight of 10,500lbs, 505ci, 2.75x3 turbo, water injection is allowed, no cut tires, 19" drawbar, and P-pumps are permitted.

I've been advised that the A-pump should be able to get me 5-600 cc of fuel, and that should be enough for what we want to do. Our biggest issue is the pencil injectors on the 70 series, there's no way to get more flow out of them. So that's why we want to go to 90 series heads, with screw-in injectors.

I'd like to put an 8 speed in it. Where should I be looking?
