Recently bought a Case 1490 with the 12 speed Syncromesh transmission. The operators manual shows the schematic pictured, Figure #45. Sitting in the tractor at about the right calf position is the main shifter with the four basic positions of 1-2-3-R in an H pattern.(black knob) At your left hand side are the two large levers with grey knobs which are used to select range 1 thru 4 with each ascending range giving you more speed in each respective gear. (see lever picture) From reading the operators manual it seems you depress the clutch and select a gear on the right side and simultaneously select a range position on the left side? Looking at the schematic each range gear has two possible positions from front to back. In order to achieve the first or #1 range selection per schematic I would move the outer lever which is closest to the tire all the way forward toward the dash (this is also the most rearward positioned lever) and then move the inner lever which is closest to the seat all the way back toward the rear of the tractor. (this is also the most forward positioned lever) Is this correct? I am assuming there are two detents for each lever.
To achieve range position #2 I would leave the inner lever in it's current range 1 position but move the outer lever back toward rear of tractor one position, is this correct?
(I am also searching for the hood decal which illustrates this schematic which is totally wore out and unreadable in case anyone has a source for it)
