Hi there everyone looking for a little help with my 1070 power shift model.
The problem is that it makes a grinding kind of noise when you press the clutch down and also dose it in reverse but it is fine going forwards I'm thinking it is a bearing but not sure where to start looking. dose anyone know what shafts turn only when clutch is down and when driving in reverse? want to get a rough idea of where to start looking before I split it to take a proper look. thanks for any help you can give me

Other guys here are much more experienced on these power shifts than me, but my two cents -

C4 clutch in the power shift is actuated both in reverse and with the inching pedal down. It is actually a braking clutch which is stopping the drum or ring gear on the planetary gear set. Doing this reverses the planetary, and causes the planet gears to spin much faster than they would in forward gears. This is the whirring sound in reverse or clutch down.... My guess would be a problem with a planetary gear or bearing in the PS. I would recommend NOT using it until fixed. One bad component easily trashes another in these. I do know from experience (as I am rebuilding my first one at the moment) all of those power shift parts add up real quick.....If you want to tackle this yourself, 1st step is buy the Case service manual.
Good Luck!

thanks for the help. I have actualy been using it for quite some time now making this noise. its one of those its not worth taking it to someone to fix it as it will probably cost more than what the tractor is worth. but its worth opening it up myself and seeing if its fixable without too much cost.

If its a loud grinding type noise with the clutch pedal depressed or in Reverse its likely a chipped tooth on the sun gear inside the
Powershift assembly, definitely something that could cause a complete powershift failure at anytime. If your mechanically inclined and have a
decent place to work its entirely possible you will be able to fix her again, parts should be available easy enough from a junkyard, as
stated before though get a true CASE service manual before you turn a wrench.
