case 311 oils

Oil chart is from 300 series tractors service manual. Steering gear box takes a little more than a quart of SAE 140 gear oil.

Modern oils are much better than when your tractor was built, there were no high detergent or multi grade oils. In my 300's I use straight SAE 30 in the engine since I am in a moderate climate and also an old geezer. Many here use SAE 10w30 which may be better pending your climate.

I use a general purpose hydraulic oil in the torque tube since it has a common spur hydraulic pump and there is nothing special in the hydraulic system that requires a more expensive oil. Main thing is low viscosity and anti-foaming.

You have one of the best little tractor ever built. Welcome to the Case forum, lots of help available here. No question too dumb. We all started the same way.

I have a 311 gas round nose. 10W30 in the engine and the NAPA equivalent of HYTRAN for the transmission/hydraulics. Lot of inprovments in lubricating oils since those old tractors were built, have to think that if modern lubricants were available then, that is what would have been recommended.
