Case tractors 430,440

One day I was reading about some body telling me that there are casting numbers on the tractor. They claim it could help find the serial numbers to there tractor. So I got interest and did some looking on my Case 440. The numbers stamped on the right side of transmission. Engine casting serial numbers found on Right side? This is what I found on mine and here are the pictures. I thought I would post this just because I was told I did not know any thing. maybe you are right. L.O.L It is sad to realize that book about CASE are very hard to find in detail. I am still looking for a data book on case tractors any body write one yet may I ask? I have the 150 years of case tractors. It has some information but I would like to find a dat book on case. Just thought I would throw my five cents in to this.

Brent, On my 1955 400 (411) the serial number is stamped vertically on the flange between the bell housing and engine. It was not cast in but probably hammered in with a number die and hammer. That is a pretty nice looking non running tractor! or can you make em run with out spark plug wires haha I was telling my Granddaughter about Case tractors and showed her the Eagle at each casting. She commenced to find all the Eagles on the tractor. gobble

I left my SC out by a pasture gate this summer (inside the pasture) One of the cows had a great time pulling off the plug wires. Wouldn't start worth a darn.............

You are probably referring to a reply that I made over on tractor talk, when you were making some comments about Case and DB tractors that were totally incorrect.
that being said, your 440 and mine are/were twins. I have since added hyd. factory pump and dual hyd. control valves to mine plus a shop built cab. Mine, sn# 8349533 is a 1968. Yours could be a year older or a year newer. I am presuming that your tractor has a diff lock pedal on the RH side of the brake cover, as mine does also. Tractors like ours were spec. as hiway mower tractors and were further equipped with aftermarket belly mounted hyd. driven sickle bar mowers, and they were powered by a crankshaft driven pump on the front of the tractor. Yours, since it has turf tires on it, not sure of size from pics. could have also been sold as a golf course tractor to pull gang mowers, and may have had 16" rears and 10" low profile front tires on it also, making it a LCG tractor.

The tractor I took pictures of: was a tractor that was bought taken apart. I had bought two case 440 U tractors one year. That took apart and left for dead. Each tractor was close to the same and I had to research on this internet ( this site) for my information on these tractors. I have a rebuilt engine with every thing new this was the first tractor I had ever change wet sleeves. New valves and new cam shaft close to 2,000.oo in just engine. I have gone threw the transmission and change all oil plus axle seals and brake seals. I know have to make up the wiring harness and spark plug wires. I might have it running this summer I hope. I have a new reverse fork to put in to the shifter because I could not get a use on. My friends told me make Shure you come to a complete stop before going in to Reverse or you will beak the fork. If I do not know it than I would say it is because I did not so far have to learn to fix it. I am sorry like I say I could be wrong But that's okay I am forgiven.

That is really a nice looking cab. I did not know that are tractors are that close in years. I can not tell you what serial number I got because I am still in the process of moving.

I think your engine serial nr tag was right there under the starter. Painted over???, at least it looks like you have the original tag screws. Tags are sometimes temporarily removed for block cleaning.

Yes you are right it does go there. I took it off when I had the block Hat tanked and cleaned. This engine has all brand new parts put in to it you might say it was a good learning experience to put in the wet sleeves. I will put the tag back on when I a get the tractor running and finish the restoration work.
